Swings : I have a lot of questions to ask you. This might take a lot of time. But um, Let's just follow the flow of the conversation. I'm curious what makes you want to stay here?
Angelina : So many things, no seriously, First of all, I genuinely feel this is an amazing opportunity for me, in terms of what I want to do with my career. Because growing up, I had so many different hobbies and so many things that I liked and enjoyed. Then, I came to Korea and I did this TV show, then another offer, they started to come to me.
Swings : Just opportunities being thrown at you, huh.
Angelina : Well, I can say I got lucky/
Swings : Oh, We all do get lucky, yeah. But it's bouncing on opportunities, that's something that most people cannot do. to follow through, right?
Angelina : But it's also, most people don't see that it's not easy experience as well. The work and the diligence , it's kind of like '안 보이는' part (the part that people don't really see) And this is something I really wanted to share with people, because they think that my life is just like..
Swings : So easy
Angelina : So easy, or only like a movie. Because that's kind of what I show or post on my SNS.
Swings : I can even through the short conversation, I can feel your vibe that you are frustrated with this, because people won't see past through your skin. Or what you look like.
Angelina : Yeah
Swings : And I can imagine, what I mean by this is not because I'm so pretty as you are, I'm just saying that When I first came to Korea, it was 1996. Different cultures, you know.
Angelina : The year that I was born.
Swings : That's when you were born?
Angelina : Yeah.
Swings : Okay I'm so older than you. Thank you for pointing that out.
Anglina : I'm sorry. LOL No, you look great. You don't look like-
Swings : Don't worry about it. I was just playing around. When I lived in the States for 9 years, I lived in the Southern area. People really didn't care too much about what you looked like. But when I came to Korea, it was amazing because I'm a leftie. I'm left handed. And I barely spoke a word of Korean. In my classroom when I was in 3rd grade, the teacher would, she called me out once and she said, go write something on the board. And I started writing. And immediately behind everyone was whispering. It's amazing, It's unamazing ability and it's an amazing collective ability where a whole people they can actually point that out. The ability to see that and sense that. I've been in this entertainment industry for so long, for 12, 13 years, but when I see beautiful female artists or actresses or whatever, who are in this field, I always see the constant pressure. They're always talking about you know, maybe you gain a few pounds, but they notice it so fast.
Angelina : It's only when you're super close to a person that you can say that. But it's still kind of like sensitive of a topic.
But then I get used to it, you know, and understanding that it's just the different cultures. This is what actually makes me work harder, especially in my Korean. Because if I'm not able to talk and express myself in a certain way, then the only thing they are gonna see is my outer. This is why I thought this interview was also such an amazing opportunity to show how I am and who I am. My way.
Swings : Yeah, your way. I want to learn your way.
스윙스 : 물어볼 질문이 매우 많은데오, 시간이 많이 필요할지도 몰라요. 우선 대화의 흐름을 따라가보죠. 한국에서 계속 활동하고 싶은 이유가 무엇인가요?
안젤리나 : 너무 많은 이유가 있어요. 첫째로, 제가 원하는 일을 하기에 이건 엄청난 기회에요. 자라면서, 너무 다양한 것들을 좋아했는데, (그걸 따라가니까) 한국에 와서 방송에 출연하게 되고, 저에게 기회가 오더라요.
스윙스 : 기회들이 자연스럽게 따라왔네요.
안젤리나 : 정말 운이 좋았다고 생각해요.
스윙스 : 아, 우리 모두 운이 좋죠. 그런데 기회를 잡는 건, 사실 많은 사람들이 잘 하진 못해요. 행동을 취하는 것, 그렇죠?
안젤리나 : 하지만 사람들이 이게 쉽지만은 않다는 걸 모르기도 해요. 일과 성실함은 사람들이 잘 보지 못하는 파트죠. 이걸 사람들에게 알려주고 싶어요. 너무 많은 분들이 제 인생이..
스윙스 : 너무 쉽다고 생각하죠.
안젤리나 : 너무 쉽거나, 영화 같다고 생각해요. 제가 그런 부분만 보여주거나, 그런 부분을 SNS에 올리니까요.
스윙스 : 이 짧은 대화만으로도 그 감정이 느껴지네요. 사람들은 피부 밑에 뭐가 있는지 보지 않죠. 외모 밑에 말이에요.
안젤리나 : 맞아요.
스윙스 : 상상이 가요, 물론 제가 당신만큼 예쁘다는 게 아니라 제가 처음 한국에 왔을 때는 1996년이었어요. 다른 문화였죠.
안젤리나 : 제가 태어났을 때네요.
스윙스 : 그때 태어났어요?
안젤리나 : 네
스윙스 : 제가 훨씬 늙었군요. 체크해주셔서 감사해요.
안젤리나 : 죄송해요 ㅋㅋ 너무 젊어 보이시는데요?
스윙스 : 걱정 마세요. 장난친 거에요. 전 미국 남부에서 9년 동안 살았는데, 사람들은 상대방이 어떤 외모를 갖고 있는지 별로 신경을 안 썼어요. 하지만 한국에 왔을 때, 저는 왼손잡이였고, 한국말을 거의 못 했어요. 제가 초등학교 3학년 때, 선생님께서 칠판 앞에 나와 무언갈 쓰라고 하셨어요. 그리고 쓰기 시작했는데, 바로 제 뒤에서 모두가 속닥거리기 시작했죠. 놀라운게, 왼손잡이는 놀라운 능력이 아니지만, 모두가 왼손잡이를 지적할 수 있다는게 놀라웠죠. 왼손잡이를 보고 그것을 의식하는 것이요. 이 엔터테인먼트에서 일을 12, 13년 동안 했지만 아름다운 여성 아티스트를 보면 항상 그들이 부담을 느끼는 걸 볼 수 있어요. 그들은 항상 입에 오르내리면서 살이 조금이라도 찌면, 사람들이 그걸 바로 알아차려요.
안젤리나 : 정말 친한 사람에게나 그런 말을 할 수 있고, 친해도 좀 예민한 부분이긴 하죠. 하지만 좀 익숙해졌어요. 문화적인 차이가 있다고 이해해요. 오히려 그것 때문에 더 열심히 일을 해요. 특히 한국어 공부를요. 왜냐하면 제가 말을 못 하고 제 자신을 표현하지 않으면 모두 제 외모밖에 못 보잖아요. 그래서 이 인터뷰가 제 자신에 대해 보여주기 위한 좋은 기회라고 생각해요. My way 말이죠.

It's bouncing on oppportunities , that's something that most people cannot do.
기회를 잡는 건, 사실 많은 사람들이 잘 하진 못해요.
사실 개인적으로 이 영상에서 가장 재밌게 느낀 표현 중 하나다.
이 문장 이전에 "We all do get lucky." 즉, "우리 모두 운이 따른다."라고 한다.
그리고 Bouncing on opportunities, 이 구문을 직역하면 기회로 튕겨져 오는 것, 즉 우리에게 따르는 운을 기회로 만드는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이후에 That이 가르키는 것은 바로 Bouncing on opportunities가 될 것이고, most people cannot do. 구문과 함께 운을 기회로 잡는 것은 많은 사람들이 잘 못한다고 해석할 수 있다.

여기서는 동사 feel이 생략된 것을 알 수 있다. 이 짧은 대화를 통해서도 당신이 느꼈을 감정이 느껴진다고 해석할 수 있다.

People won't see past through your skin.
사람들은 피부 밑에 뭐가 있는지 보려고 하지 않아요.
이 문장을 직역하면 정말 피부 밑에 뭐가 있는지 보지 않는다로 해석할 수 있지만 문맥 상, 사람들은 겉모습에 집중하다보니 내면에 더 중요한 것을 보려고 하지 않는다고 해석할 수 있다.
